Choir
There are many opportunities to participate in RLC's music program. Some of those are:
Chancel Choir: The chancel choir sings at 8:30 worship two times per month and at 11:00 a.m. worship two times per month. This group also sings at major festivals and presents several concerts throughout the year. Rehearsal time is Wednesday evening, from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. in the choir room. No audition is required, although prior choral experience is helpful. For more information contact Shelbie Simmons, Music Director at shelbie@rlc-elca.org.
Sounds of Joy Handbell Choir: This ensemble plays in worship approximately once a month and rehearses every Wednesday evening from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. in the sanctuary. This ensemble is open for high school through adults. Music reading ability and a good sense of rhythm are required. Handbell substitutes are always welcome and needed. New Spirit Ensemble: The ensemble leads worship at 11:00 a.m. worship two times per month and is open for high school age through adults. They rehearse from 4:45 to 6 p.m. in the sanctuary on Sundays. Guitar players, vocalists, keyboard players, and percussionists are welcome in this group. Alleluia Kids: This choir is for children in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade. They rehearse after 11:00 a.m. worship every Sunday, from 12:15 to 12:45. Vocal skill building is emphasized, as well as learning to read music, and learning about liturgical worship. This group sings at 11 a.m. service approximately once a month. Dr. Shelbie Simmons is the Director of Worship and Music at Resurrection Lutheran Church. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Organ Performance from University of North Texas - Denton, a K-12th Grade Vocal/General Music Teaching Certificate from the University of Texas, and Masters and Doctoral Degrees in Choral Conducting fro the University of Oklahoma. She has 10 years experience teaching music in public schools and over 12 years of experience as a full time music director. She founded the Arts at Messiah Concert Series at Messiah Lutheran Church in Oklahoma City. She also founded the Oklahoma City Bach Society in 2004. She has conducted and performed numerous concerts, specializing in the music of German Baroque composers.
