Pastor Todd's Corner
Resurrection Lutheran Church's Senior Pastor, Rev. J. Todd Bruning, graduated from Texas A&M University in 1985 with a degree in Organizational Psychology and a pre-med minor. He also earned two graduate degrees (MS & EdS) in Counseling and Non-profit Management at Northern Illinois University while working as both a Family Therapist and Training & Development consultant. Rev. Bruning and his wife, Rev. Jamie Bruning, are both ordained pastors in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. They met in 1993 at Luther Seminary in St. Paul, MN where they both earned a Master of Divinity degree (1997). They have one daughter, Kaite (20), and one son, Nikhil (1). Pastor Todd, as he is referred to at Resurrection, has 25 years experience in Youth Ministry, Christian Education, Children and Family Ministry and a special certification in Youth and Family Ministry through an ecumenical training program called Youth Leadership. He and Pastor Jamie have led multi-cultural and intergenerational worship services, workshops, and conferences throughout the country. Pastor Todd and his wife Pastor Jamie both have an avid interest in music, theater, and the arts (scrapbooking, desktop layout) as well. Pastor Todd has been seen on professional and community theater stages in Illinois, Michigan, and Minnesota. He has also toured internationally with an assortment of boys choirs, college chamber choirs, and church youth choirs as both soloist and director.
When you visit Resurrection Lutheran Church, you are likely to see Pastor Todd in a Kaleidoscope of different roles; presiding over communion in a traditional Lutheran service in an alb and stole, crawling on the floor with toddlers during our Ark Preschool chapel, wearing a clergy collar on the way to the hospital, hauling Pumpkins in blue jeans with our high school RYOT youth, playing the guitar for a Vacation Bible School gathering dressed as a robot, leading small group parenting and marriage courses, teaching large group bible classes with PowerPoint slides, speaking Greek and Hebrew during the ancient Seder Meal that may have been the original Last Supper, or leaning on a shepherd staff assuming the role of a biblical disciple during a Holy Week service.
