Welcome! If you have walked through our doors, we hope you already feel a part of Resurrection Friends & Family. Hopefully other Friends & Family have welcomed you warmly.

Some frequently asked questions by visitors:

WHAT MUST I DO TO BECOME A MEMBER AT RESURRECTION LUTHERAN CHURCH?
There are only two requirements for full participation at Resurrection -
1) Baptism and 2) Affirmation of Baptism

  • At Resurrection we honor any Baptism performed in another Christian church. If you or your child has not been baptized, and you have questions about how to proceed, please contact the church office and schedule a visit with Pastor Todd.
  • We schedule five Friends & Family Sundays during the year for our Affirmation of Baptism Service. To participate you will select two Share Our Selves (S.O.S.) sponsors. Any Greeter at the Welcome Desk (in the Narthex) or at the Welcome Table (in the Celebration Center) can help you identify possible S.O.S. sponsors.

WHAT IS A FRIENDS AND FAMILY SUNDAY?
On Friends & Family Sundays (also known as "Celebration Sundays") we do things a little differently. During the worship service we have a special liturgy, called the "Affirmation of Baptism" service, to welcome you as new Friends & Family members into the Resurrection community. We have special music, or a drama, or some kind of party or activity after worship. We also encourage you as new Friends & Family to join us in the Pastor's Forum and/or Sunday School activities at 9:45 am on that Sunday. Each class has a "Welcome Reception".

IF I LIKE THE PEOPLE AT RESURRECTION AND FEEL COMFORTABLE HERE, BUT I AM NOT SURE ABOUT BECOMING A "MEMBER", WILL THAT BOTHER ANYBODY, OR WILL ANYONE PRESSURE ME?
Our first statement of belief at Resurrection is ... God is all about Good News! (then, in parentheses  ... God is present so we do not  Pressure!) There is plenty of Good News abounding at Resurrection and we trust God will nudge you at the appropriate time to become more deeply involved ... either here, with us, or in one of many other places where God is abundantly present.

I DON'T HAVE ANY OTHER CHURCH MEMBERSHIP AND DON'T KNOW THAT MUCH ABOUT CHRISTIANITY. IS THIS A PROBLEM?
Not at all! We welcome you, and we are glad that Resurrection can play a part in your life of faith. Our five Friends & Family 01 Forums are ... um ... FRIENDly - and are designed for people of all ages, all faith backgrounds, and all stages of faith development. Perhaps you have already seen a little bit of what being a follower of Christ is about through your experiences with us. These forums will be a chance for you to learn more about the Christian faith, the Lutheran and Reformation traditions, and most of all, the other wonderful people at Resurrection.

I'M ALREADY A LUTHERAN. DO I HAVE TO ATTEND FRIENDS & FAMILY 01?
No. But it IS a wonderful opportunity for you that will be an incredible blessing. Friends & Family 01 is more than a refresher course on Lutheran theology. It's a great chance to meet some other people from Resurrection, to meet some of the staff, and to visually see displays about the many opportunities for ministry that Resurrection offers. And to discover the ways that your God-given gifts and interests can help others.

DO I NEED A LETTER OF TRANSFER FROM MY PREVIOUS CONGREGATION?
Preferably. Everyone is received into full participation through the Affirmation of Baptism service. But while a letter of transfer is not required, we like to send a letter to your previous congregation and previous pastor as a courtesy. We encourage you to contact your previous pastor BEFORE the Friends & Family service. We have a pre-printed card that can assist you in that process. We will send our letter to that church/pastor within 10 days AFTER the Friends & Family service.

CAN I BE A PART OF THE AFFIRMATION OF BAPTISM SERVICE IF I DON'T ATTEND FRIENDS & FAMILY 01?
Yes. But if you are unable to attend, please schedule an appointment with Pastor Todd prior to the Affirmation of Baptism service.

WHAT IF I AM ROMAN CATHOLIC, OR BAPTIST, OR METHODIST, OR PRESBYTERIAN, OR ...?
Lutherans recognize and accept the rite of baptism, confirmation, and marriage performed in all Christian churches. We teach that we are only one part (but an important part) of the whole Christian church on earth; one that is re-forming (changing and growing), evangelical (Good News), and catholic (one part of the WHOLE body of Christ). This is the one way realize the unity in Christ we confess together. We also hope that you will come to appreciate the distinctively Lutheran aspects of our tradition and theology.

I WANT TO BE INVOLVED IN RESURRECTION, BUT I'M NOT SURE I WANT TO DROP MY MEMBERSHIP IN MY HOME CONGREGATION.
That's OK. You can choose to join us as an Associate Member. This allows you to remain a member of your home congregation, but still participate in the life of Resurrection. However, an Associate Member does not have official voting privileges at congregational meetings.

WHAT IS A WELCOME DESK, A WELCOME TABLE, OR AN S.O.S. SPONSOR?
On Sunday mornings the Welcome Desk in the Narthex (just inside the south entrance), and the Welcome Table in the Celebration Center (opposite the kitchen) are open. You can receive your "Celebrate with Us" Welcome Packet at either location. The Greeter at either location will talk to you about connection with two S.O.S. (Share Our Selves) Sponsors before the next Affirmation of Baptism Sunday. S.O.S. Sponsors are trained to help you get better connected with other Resurrection Friends & Family. They will share with you the values of our Four Verbs for Ministry - WORSHIP, LEARN, SERVE, AND WITNESS. And they will help you find the best way for you and your family to celebrate full participation at Resurrection.
